On 19/7/07, miss M.A 15 YRS old female was brought to the clinic with following complaints. Her first menstrual period was at 11 yrs of age and menses were regular for 3 yrs. Since 1 year menses are very irregular and late (every 35 – 40 days). Now since 2½ months, there have been no menses. In the last 2 yrs she has put on weight of around 9 kg. She has extra hair growth on chin. Before menses she gets lot of pain in extremities, abdomen which continues for first 2 days of menses. At present her weight is 67 kg. Along with that she has H/o recurrent upper respiratory tract infection (tonsillitis) which has somewhat reduced recently.
SHE WAS ASKED TO DO SOME HORMONAL TESTS AND USG OF ABDOMEN
USG (7/07) gave a diagnosis of polycystic ovarian disease. Her hormonal essay showed high prolactin level-That was —-101.6 (N-2.2-18.5ng/ml).Hence diagnosis was confirmed as polycystic ovarian disease.
Detailed case was taken and she was put on homeopathic treatment. Immediately after starting the treatment, she got her menses which has not come since 2½ months. Since then her menses are regular except 2-3 cycles which were delayed by 1 week or 10 days.
We repeated the USG in Oct 2008, which showed decrease in the volume of the polycystic ovaries and her prolactin level were 36.6 ng/ml. All her other hormonal essay is normal. She gets her menses regularly. She is on treatment very irregularly now.
